Oxenberry Farm: the birthplace of McLaren Vale

2009 The Duchess Late Harvest White

McLaren Vale – 90% Chardonnay, 10% Muscat of Alexandria

The grapes for this wine were picked a little later than usual, purposely to enable the fruit to ripen for longer and offer more sweetness to the wine, making it quite a unique version to the typical Chardonnay. It bursts with a fresh fruit palate, with aromas of honeysuckle, pears, apples and peaches.

William Colton and Charles Hewett, the first settlers of the McLaren Vale region, left London in August 1839 having chartered The Duchess of Northumberland to sail across the globe and relocate themselves and their families to the Great Southerland Land that is Australia. They landed in Adelaide on 19th December of that year, soon after arriving at what became their new home at Oxenberry Farm.

Try it with fresh fruit salads or soft cheeses. Our favourite food match for this wine are figs wrapped in prosciutto topped with a dollop of fresh goats cheese – give it a try!
